MPWell basically an Ipod is an mp3 audio player but there are several differences, it really depends on what you want to do and how you want to listen to music, many Apple fan boys will tell you that the Ipod is the best mp3 audio player but in reality there are many good mp3 players with half the cost of the Ipod, here are some of the things that make the mp3 audio player different from the Apple Ipods.

1. Both devices can play mp3 audio files how ever regular mp3 players can not play any format that was developed by Apple, specially DRM music files from Itunes music store, also depending on the type of mp3 player that you buy there could be a big difference in the quality of the audio between the Ipod and a regular mp3 player.

2. Depending on the manufacturer the Ipod could have a better and easier to use interface than a regular mp3 audio player, but to be honest unless you are buying a dollar store mp3 player most mp3 audio players have very good interfaces for half the price that you would pay for an ipod.

3. Both mp3 audio players and the Ipod can use iTunes to get music automatically downloaded to your mp3 player, how ever the iPod is optimized to work perfectly with iTunes specially if you own a mac.

4.It really comes down to the quality of the device and how much money you want to spend, the Ipod could cost you hundreds of dollars and a regular mp3 audio player could cost you less than $100 dollars.

At the end of the day the difference between a regular mp3 audio player and the iPod is not really that big, it really depends on what type of user you are and how much you want to spend, in my opinion if you are a person who will use their mp3 player only once in a while and do not care about brands and just want a quality audio player than just buy a regular $50 dollar mp3 player, you will get a nice interface, lots of storage and good audio quality, now if you are a person who want to have an mp3 player that will last for years, with a beautiful interface and lots of updates and of course if you do not care to spend hundreds of dollars than you are a good candidate to buy an ipod.
