You have probably heard about how great the Ipods are, and trust me they are great media players, however in times where the economy is not that great people are looking for ways to save money on everything, well if you are looking to save money on gadgets buying a mp3 player is a great idea, specially now that the prices on all gadgets are going down you can find great mp3 players for less than $20, yea it will probably be a 2gb mp3 audio player and it will probably not play any other type of media but hey, if you are looking for something that will play mp3’s and you do not want to spend hundreds of dollars buying a regular mp3 player is your best option.
Another thing that you need to know is that not just Ipods play audio, video and photos. other great devices like the creative zen have multimedia capabilities and they cost less than $100 dollars.
I guess it really depends on what you want to do, for example if you have kids and you want to give them their first mp3 player maybe a cheap mp3 player is the best thing to do, that way if they break it or lose it your will lose very little money, and maybe if you want to give your husband or boyfriend a cool mp3 player maybe the ipod touch is a great option since they will take care of it better.

Today while I was doing some cleaning of I found my old Creative Muvo 256 mp3 audio player and decided to put a battery and it works like new, this was pretty interesting to me because this mp3 player must be several years old , and when I bought it I used to play the thing all day long at work, usually around 9 hours a day and I did that for around 1 year, so when I bought a new mp3 audio player I decided to just throw it in a box, several years later I found that box and there it is, still working like new!
